My love for the Classics

Before I ever saw the classic films, I liked tons of people from today, the music, etc. When my mom showed me Breakfast at Tiffany's, I thought it was awesome! That was when my love for classics began. I started looking into it more and more. I soon started watching Audrey Hepburn's films, and I loved them so much. I also saw The Birds and it was such a fantastic, suspenseful film! Alfred Hitchcock's films let me see other actors of that time. Back then, I never heard of Cary Grant, James Stewart, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Joseph Cotten, Teresa Wright, and many more that were in his films. I loved them all. I started then watching movies of those actors, which also led me know about other ones, like Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, William Powell, Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood. Then I started listening to old music, like big bands, rock and roll, mostly the music they had back in those days. I started getting away from what I used to like, and this was becoming my new hobby. Then I got into Fred and Ginger, which are wonderful dancers!!! And after that I became a Ginger Rogers fan. Now I appreciate the old days and their films. Personally, I think today's stars are lame. No class, and it's not the same anymore. At least back then they really knew how to "act" unlike today. I say "Hooray for Classic Hollywood!!!" : )

  1. I agree with you about today's actors - LAME. Haha. There are just a few who I think actually have talent, but I doubt they will be remembered and loved the way the actors from the original days of Hollywood are. It seems like by now, everything has been done before, and creativity and innovation have been replaced with computerized special effects.

  2. AMEN!!!

...I think you are already following it, but if not check out the 'Some Parade' blog... Juliette and those folks over there are the REAL DEAL... they have FORGOTTEN ten times more stuff about classic movies that I will EVER know!
I am 'branching out' to check out other classic movies (i.e., those w/o Ginger)... there are some great ones! I am fond of RKO movies, obviously Ginger's home studio, but also had Cary Grant, Kate Hepburn, among many others!
I take it you have Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on TV? It really is the last refuge for 'classic' movie fans...
And A.I.A., I agree about today's 'stars'...just not seeing the 'larger than life' stuff from them...

  3. To AlexIsAwake,
Yes, there are some great people of today, but they don't have that talent like back then. It seems all the magic has left, and new things like computer graphics are coming. It's really neat about the graphics, but there's no originality to the films.

    To jwalker,
Ya, I know a lot about the classics stars, but there are more actors that I must check out though! I do have TCM. It is the last place for classic movies lovers to check out. I used to watch old movies on AMC, but now they play a lot more 80's movies and more of the new films. Then I discovered TCM, and just watched old films from there. I love the classics. Nothing can ever replace the Golden Age of Hollywood!!!
